Horseshoe Boy was formed by Adam Watkins in early 2006, a graduate of APA International Film School, Sydney and recent recipient of the 2nd prize at the cfpe/Shots Young Director of the Year Award (Cannes, 2005).
Adam’s initial studies were in Creative Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University. His work there was later shown at London’s ICA Summer Exhibitions. ‘Digging a (W)hole’, a multi monitor video installation was invited back to exhibit as part of their ‘Ripple Effect – Summer Exhibitions Greatest Hits’.
Prior to film school, Adam gained significant experience within Broadcasting as both a Transmission Controller and Broadcast Engineer.
Whilst at Film School, Adam was asked to direct a community video focussing on the youth participation in a local Street Festival. ‘Streetfair 2004’ was a well received documentation of the role of the youth group in this largest aspect of the borough wide Spring Festival, produced on DVCam for Willoughby City Council, Sydney.
Amongst Adam’s other work at film school, ‘Golf’ a 30 second commercial spot for John Smiths Beer, shot on 16mm film, was selected as a finalist and awarded second prize at the cfpe/Shots Young Director Award (Film School – Non-Europe category), Cannes. In addition to his work with Horseshoe Boy, Adam has been involved in a number of music video, documentary and fiction productions as 1st AD, notably the multi award winning short film ‘Dammi Il La’ shot in Turin, Italy & Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
